Description

Maryland Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Orientation for Local Church Leaders
Speaker: Paul Eichelberger and the Benefits Team

The Baltimore‑Washington and Peninsula-Delaware Conference Benefit and Finance Offices will share important information about the Maryland Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. This new statewide initiative will affect ALL Maryland employers, including local churches, beginning with mandatory payroll withholdings in January 2027.

Every Maryland church in the two conferences will be guided to withhold 0.45% payroll contributions from every W-2 employee under this program.  Churches with 15 or more employees will be required to match employees' contributions with an additional 0.45% of wages.

The program requires ALL employers to register this Fall; the details are not yet available.  All employers will also submit the collected contributions along with quarterly employee wage and hours reports starting in April 2027.  Employees will be able to apply for paid leave benefits starting January 2028.

This training session is designed specifically for pastors, treasurers, finance committees, SPRC chairs, and church administrators who will play a key role in preparing their congregations for compliance and implementation.
